WHO IS MARK BELL

I’ve been Mark Bell for a long time. I was Mark “Smelly” Bell since my brothers gave me the nickname when I was only a youngin’. I hated taking showers, so of course, I was smelly. However, it took many years to become the Mark Bell that I am today. Mark Bell, the world record-breaking powerlifter. MARK "SMELLY" BELL

MARK BELL AND HIS BROTHERS

I grew up as the youngest of three boys with my traditional American family in Poughkeepsie, New York. I first started to get into lifting, after a bully from the neighborhood punted my favorite New York Jets football straight into the woods near my house… legend has it that football is still in those woods somewhere. From that point forward I told myself I would never let anyone punk me like that again and I was going to be strong enough to stick up for myself. My older brothers Mike (MadDog), and Chris (Boar) helped me get into lifting weights and being strong like them. You may have seen my childhood and family featured in my big bro Chris’s documentary, “Bigger, Stronger, Faster”.

What started as lifting weight in the basement to be like my brothers, sparked my fire for powerlifting and becoming as strong as I could possibly be. I sought out knowledge and learned from the strongest and best minds in the strength game. I trained at Westside Barbell with Louie Simmons, learned from the GOAT, Ed Coan, trained at Gold’s with my friend Mike O’Hearn, and many other strong and jacked mentors along the way. Once I moved to NorCal with my beautiful wife Andee and newborn son, I knew I needed a place to train myself. If I wanted to accomplish my goals in powerlifting, I needed a team of people around me to push me, challenge me, and help me. So, I created the STrongest Gym in the West, Super Training Gym.

MARK AND OLD SCHOOL ST MEMBERS

With Team Super Training all pushing each other, including myself to get stronger, I set world and American records in powerlifting. My best-equipped lifts were a 1,080lb skwaat, an 854lb bench press, and a 766lb deadlift, and my best raw bench press in competition was 578lbs. As you can imagine, the journey to hitting those lifts and breaking those world and American records came with their fair share of injuries. After tearing my pec several times, I began thinking of a way I could bench press again without any pain, and help others do the same. I played around with some early ideas of the Sling Shot® but never did anything with that dream until later.

It was not until my world was shaken that I decided to go all-in on my dream. My hero and big brother Mike “Mad Dog” Bell tragically died when he was only 37 years old. I still remember the phone call I received from my dad telling me that Mike was dead. Shortly after his death, I had a dream where I could vividly hear Mike telling me to, “THINK!”. I woke up with chills from head to toe and covered in sweat. That morning I set out to make my dream of the Sling Shot® come true. I went to a local Starbucks with my iPad and started googling how to manufacture powerlifting products like knee wraps and bench shirts. That is where my company, Mark Bell - Sling Shot® began.

MARK LAYING OVER BOXES

After successfully creating the Sling Shot and building a company around making the world a better place to lift, I became Mark Bell, “Meathead Millionaire”. From that point forward, the ball kept rolling. I used the money I made from the Sling Shot® to make my gym 100% free. That’s right, FREE. No member of Super Training Gym pays me or anyone else a dime. Powerlifting has done so much for me. This is my way of giving back to powerlifting. I started up a podcast to help educate more people about how to get jacked and tan, and how to live. I kept thinking about how I can help every person who steps in the gym and kept inventing more products.

Becoming Mark “Smelly” Bell has not been easy. I was labeled as dumb, and learning disabled while in school. I was not the first person you’d think of to start a successful business or be an educator to the world on how to get Jacked and Tan. I have had to take things a little slower, and forge my own path to educate myself. In educating myself, I have learned how to educate other people on how to lift, how to eat, and most importantly… how to live. That's why they call me the “People’s Coach”.

As the People’s Coach, I have had many opportunities to rub elbows with some of the best in the world when it comes to business, health, fitness, and entertainment. I have been featured on the biggest podcast in the world, The Joe Rogan Experience, twice. I have become friends with Tim Ferriss and have helped him with several of his self-experimentation projects. I have developed professional relationships with business and entrepreneur icons like Andy Frisella, Bedros Kueilian, Tom Bilyue, and Ron Pena.

I’ve trained and learned from some of the greats like Stan Efferding, Louie Simmons, Charles Glass, Phil Heath, and Jay Cutler. I have been able to call my childhood heroes like Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Ed Coan, some of my close friends. I have written two books, and contributed written material to many other books and online periodicals. I have one of the oldest fitness YouTube channels in the game and have been pumping out content since 2006. I am a rapper. Yes, I did spit fire on the mic once and even created a YouTube video for my hit single, “Meathead Millionaire”.

MARK BELL AND FAMILY

I now continue to work on how I can Make The World A Better Place To Lift and teach people to Lift Through It®. I work hard to love my wife, son, and daughter every day, and help invest value into the lives of the people I interact with.
